Plan Your Visit
Bar K is an entirely new kind of destination for people and dogs. We thought we’d answer some frequently asked questions to help you plan your visit and make sure you and your pups have an overwhelmingly positive experience — whether it’s your first visit or your 50th!
Where are you located?
We are located in downtown Kansas City on the shore of the Missouri River in beautiful Berkley Riverfront Park, under the Heart of America bridge. Our address is 501 Berkley Parkway, KC MO 64120. Because the location is new, the mapping software on your phone may have trouble finding the address. Please try this link instead.
Do I have to be a Member to visit Bar K?
Nope. You can also visit as a Guest. We will have a short form for you to fill out at our Front Desk. You only have to fill this form out once, when you first visit. If you’d like to fill out the form in advance to save time at the Front Desk, you can access it here. Just complete the form and show the confirmation email when you get to Bar K.
How much does it cost to visit as a Guest?
The entry free is $10 for your first dog, and $5 for each additional dog in your household. We accept cash and all major credit cards. If you don’t have a dog, entry is always free.
Do I need to bring my dog’s vet records if I am visiting as a Guest?
Your dogs must be current on vaccinations (Rabies, Distemper/Parvo/Lepto (DHLPP/Da2PP), and Bordetella), but you do not need to bring the paper records with you. We will have a form at the Front Desk where we will collect the necessary information, including the name of your vet clinic.
Will you accept a titer test in lieu of a current vaccination?
Yes, if you can supply a recent (within 3 months) titer test showing that the dog has the appropriate level of immunity, we will accept that in lieu of a vaccination.
Is it weird to come to Bar K without a dog?
Definitely not. We are a unique bar, restaurant and coffeehouse — we have great food, gourmet coffee, craft beer and cocktails, art, and entertainment (sometimes provided by professional entertainers, and sometimes by the dogs!). We pride ourselves on making sure our guests have an overwhelmingly positive experience, dog or no dog. It is always free to visit Bar K without a dog. Of course, if you have a pup, all the better!
Is there ever a wait to get into Bar K?
On very busy days, there can sometimes be a wait to get your dog into the park. Our priority is to provide a safe, fun environment, so when the park is at capacity, we will go to a one-out, one-in entry system. We will have separate lines for Members and for Guests, and we will do everything we can to get you and your pup in as quickly as possible. If you’re not bringing a dog, you don’t need to wait in line — please go right to the front door.
How can I become a Bar K Member?
Can kids come to Bar K?
Yes! We love kids and recognize they are the next generation of responsible dog owners. To ensure both your kids and the dogs in the park have a great experience, we have developed a “Bar K Kids” Policy. Highlights of this policy are:
Kids are always welcome in the restaurant and our on-leash areas.
In the off-leash park, the following rules apply:
All kids 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult
Kids 4-12 must watch our “I’m a Bar K Kid” video and take a quiz
Kids 8 & under must be in the IMMEDIATE PHYSICAL PRESENCE of a parent or guardian.
Kids may not climb on play equipment, run in the park, or tease/taunt dogs.
Our Dogtenders will politely enforce these rules to ensure a safe and fun environment for all humans and dogs.
Do you offer doggy daycare? Can I leave my dog with you and come back later?
No, we do not currently offer doggy daycare. You must remain at Bar K while your dog is here. However, you are welcome to leave your dog in the park while you visit our bar/restaurant. Your dog will have a great time playing in the park, supervised by our professional staff of Dogtenders, while you grab a drink or a bite to eat, watch a game or get some work done on your laptop.
Do you have an indoor off-leash play area?
Our two-acre dog park is outdoors. However, it is partially under the expansive Heart of America Bridge, which provides shade and shelter. Also, in the wintertime we have a large, heated tent over our off-leash Beer Garden area. As a result, we have comfortable off-leash play areas year-round.
Do you have a separate park for small dogs?
Yes. We have a separate park for dogs under 25 lbs. This small dog park has play equipment, a TV, and its own bar where small dog owners can grab a beverage or a bite to eat. Small dogs are welcome to visit the main play area if they are comfortable around large dogs. We also have a separate area called Puppies’ Pub just for puppies 3 to 9 months old!
Can I leave my dog in the park while I go into the bar/restaurant?
Yes! Our staff of Dogtenders will supervise your pup while you grab a drink or a bite to eat, watch a game or get some work done on your laptop.
Are the dogs supervised while in the park?
Yes, we have professionally trained Dogtenders whose job is to supervise the dogs’ play, keep the park safe and clean, and ensure that all our guests, human and dog, have an overwhelmingly positive experience at Bar K.
How old do dogs have to be to visit the park?
Dog have to be at least 12 weeks (3 months) old and current on all vaccinations in order to enter Bar K — that is the minimum age when their immune systems are sufficiently developed to be safe in an off-leash environment.
Do you have breed restrictions?
No. We do not believe in breed restrictions and we are committed to joining with other community leaders to educate lawmakers so that we can end Breed Specific Legislation (BSL). Any vaccinated, well-socialized dog over 3 months of age is welcome to visit Bar K.
Do dogs have to be spayed or neutered to visit the park?
Although we strongly encouraging spaying and neutering your dogs, we understand that there are responsible dog owners who may choose not to do so. We also understand that for certain larger breeds, veterinarians may recommend waiting until a dog is a year old or older before spaying/neutering. Accordingly, we do not require that dogs be spayed or neutered. However, please understand that intact dogs can present unique challenges in off-leash play areas. Therefore, our Dogtenders may ask you to closely supervise your intact dog, move your dog to another area of the park, or in some cases leave the off-leash park if we cannot ensure a safe environment for everyone. In such cases, we will of course refund any entry fees.
Can I bring food or treats into the dog park?
No, we do not allow food or treats in the off-leash park. Food aggression is a common behavior among dogs — some very well-socialized dogs may become aggressive around food. To ensure a safe and fun environment for everyone, food is only allowed inside the restaurant or on our on-leash patios. You may, however, enjoy beverages purchased at our bar/restaurant anywhere in the park.
Is there a place where I can enjoy a meal with my dog?
Yes! We have a large back patio, and an expansive upstairs deck with great views, where you can enjoy a meal with your leashed dog. We have full table service in these areas. In the wintertime, we have heated tents covering the patio and roof deck to provide comfortable seating year-round.
