Preparing for your first visit

WELCOME TO BAR K!

This page will help you plan your first visit to our joyful and unique destination for people and dogs.

There are two ways to enter Bar K with a dog.  You can purchase a Membership which gives you and your pup unlimited access to Bar K during open hours.  You can find more information about Membership here.

Or, you can purchase a Guest Pass.  The cost on weekdays is always $10 for your first dog, $5 for each additional dog in your pack.  The cost on Saturday & Sunday is $15 for the first dog, $5 for each additional dog in your pack.  Weekend pricing may vary by location especially during off-peak season (November-March).  You can complete the Guest Entry Form in advance by clicking below or fill it out at our Front Desk.

A lot of people ask us if it’s weird to visit Bar K without a dog. The answer is No, it absolutely is not!  A lot of people may have lifestyles that don’t allow them to have dogs at the moment, or may be traveling without their pups.  Whatever the reason, we would love for you to be part of the unique Bar K experience.  Visiting Bar K without a dog is always free.  You still need to complete our Guest Entry Form which you can do at the door or in advance by clicking below.

DOG ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be current on vaccinations (Rabies, DHLPP/Da2PP and Bordetella)

  • Must be properly socialized for group play

  • Must be at least 12 weeks old

  • Must have an ID tag at all times (if you don’t have one, we will provide at our Front Desk)

  • Puppies who are under 25 lbs AND under six months of age are allowed in the Small Dog Park only, or on one of our on-leash patios. This is because puppies of that age and size may not have the experience or physical ability to play safely among large adult dogs. Once your puppy is over 25lbs or 6 months of age, they are permitted to play in the All Dog Park.

Have Questions?

BAR K FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

BAR K IS AN ENTIRELY NEW KIND OF DESTINATION FOR PEOPLE AND DOGS.  WE THOUGHT WE’D ANSWER SOME FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU PLAN YOUR VISIT AND MAKE SURE YOU AND YOUR PUPS HAVE AN OVERWHELMINGLY POSITIVE EXPERIENCE — WHETHER IT’S YOUR FIRST VISIT OR YOUR 50TH!

The initial Bar K is located in downtown Kansas City on the shore of the Missouri River in beautiful Berkley Riverfront Park, under the Heart of America bridge.  The address is 501 Berkley Parkway, KC MO 64120.  In 2022 we opened our second location, in the Grove neighborhood in downtown St. Louis, MO. The address is 4565 McRee Ave, St. Louis MO 63110. We are in the process of expanding to multiple locations; check the locations tab on the navigation bar for more info.

Nope.  You can also visit as a Guest.  We will have a short form for you to fill out at our Front Desk.  You only have to fill this form out once, when you first visit. If you’d like to fill out the form in advance to save time at the Front Desk, you can access it here. Just complete the form and we can quickly look you up when you arrive.

The guest entry fee is $10 for your first dog and $5 for each additional dog in your household — except during peak season (April-October), when the price on Saturdays and Sundays increases to $15 for your first dog and $5 for each additional dog.  We accept cash and all major credit cards.  If you don’t have a dog, entry is always free.

Yes, all dogs must be current on vaccinations (Rabies, Distemper / Parvo / Lepto (DHLPP/Da2PP), and Bordetella) to visit Bar K.

If you are visiting as a Guest, you do not need to bring the paper records with you.  You will complete a Guest Entry Form in which you will certify that your dog’s vaccinations are current and provide additional information, including the name of your vet clinic. When you become a Member, we will collect the vaccination records and upload to your Member file.

Yes, if you can supply a recent (within 3 months) titer test showing that the dog has the appropriate level of immunity, we will accept that in lieu of a vaccination.

Definitely not!  We are a unique bar, restaurant and coffeehouse — we have great housemade food, gourmet coffee, craft beer and cocktails, art, and entertainment (sometimes provided by professional entertainers, and sometimes by the dogs!).  We pride ourselves on making sure our guests have an overwhelmingly positive experience, dog or no dog.  It is always free to visit Bar K without a dog. Of course, if you have a pup, all the better!

On very busy days, there can sometimes be a wait to get your dog into the park.  Our priority is to provide a safe, fun environment, so when the park is at capacity, we will go to a one-out, one-in entry system.  We will have separate lines for Members and for Guests, and we will do everything we can to get you and your pup in as quickly as possible.

You can purchase a Membership  here, or at our Front Desk next time you visit.  For more information about Memberships, click here.

Yes!  We love kids and recognize they are the next generation of responsible dog owners. To ensure both your kids and the dogs in the park have a great experience, we have developed a “Bar K Kids” Policy.  Highlights of this policy are:

  • Kids are always welcome in the restaurant and our on-leash areas.

  • In the off-leash park, the following rules apply:

    • All kids 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult

    • Kids 4-12 must watch our “I’m a Bar K Kid” video and take a quiz

    • Kids 8 & under must be in the IMMEDIATE PHYSICAL PRESENCE of a parent or guardian.

  • Kids may not climb on play equipment, run in the park, or tease/taunt dogs.

Our Dogtenders will politely enforce these rules to ensure a safe and fun environment for all humans and dogs.

Our St. Louis facility includes “Stay! at Bar K,” our on-site dog daycare, grooming and training facility, which is managed by Kennelwood Pet Resorts. For more information about Stay!, click here. We are in the process of adding a Stay! at Bar K to our Kansas City facility as well!

At our Kansas City location, the two-acre dog park is outdoors.  However, it is partially under the expansive Heart of America Bridge, which provides shade and shelter.  All of our other locations feature both indoor and outdoor off-leash play areas.

Yes.  We have a separate park for dogs under 25 lbs.  This small dog park has play equipment, a TV, and its own bar where small dog owners can grab a beverage or a bite to eat. Small dogs over 6 month of age are welcome to visit the main play area if they are comfortable around large dogs.

Yes!  Our staff of Dogtenders will supervise your pup while you grab a drink or a bite to eat, watch a game or get some work done on your laptop.

Yes, we have professionally trained Dogtenders whose job is to supervise the dogs’ play, keep the park safe and clean, and ensure that all our guests, human and dog, have an overwhelmingly positive experience at Bar K.

While we do everything possible to provide a safe environment, it is inevitable in an off-leash environment that conflict may arise. Accordingly, we have a detailed conflict management process in place. Our immediate concern will be to safely separate the dogs, do a complete injury check on all dogs and humans involved, and provide any necessary first aid. Once the situation has been resolved, our staff will collect all necessary information and provide an Incident Report Form, including contact information, to all parties involved. More information on our conflict management process can be found in our “What to Expect” form which can be found here.

Dog have to be at least 12 weeks (3 months) old and current on all vaccinations in order to enter Bar K — that is the minimum age when their immune systems are sufficiently developed to be safe in an off-leash environment. For their safety, puppies who are under 25 lbs AND under six months of age are allowed in the Small Dog Park only, or on one of our on-leash patios. This is because puppies of that age and size may not have the experience or physical ability to play safely among large adult dogs. Once your puppy is over 25lbs or 6 months of age, they are permitted to play in the All Dog Park.

Yes!  We do not believe in breed restrictions and we are committed to joining with other community leaders to educate lawmakers so that we can end Breed Specific Legislation (BSL).  Any vaccinated, well-socialized dog over 3 months of age is welcome to visit Bar K. Pitbull-type dogs are among our sweetest customers.

Although we strongly encourage spaying and neutering your dogs, we understand that there are responsible dog owners who may choose not to do so.  We also understand that for certain larger breeds, veterinarians may recommend waiting until a dog is a year old or older before spaying/neutering.  Accordingly, we do not require that dogs be spayed or neutered.  However, please understand that intact dogs can present unique challenges in off-leash play areas.  Therefore, our Dogtenders may ask you to closely supervise your intact dog, move your dog to another area of the park, or in some cases leave the off-leash park if we cannot ensure a safe environment for everyone.  In such cases, we will of course refund any entry fees. Female dogs are not permitted in the off-leash park while in heat.

No, we do not allow food or treats in the off-leash park.  Food aggression is a common behavior among dogs — some very well-socialized dogs may become aggressive around food.  To ensure a safe and fun environment for everyone, food is only allowed inside the restaurant or on our on-leash patios.  You may, however, enjoy beverages purchased at our bar/restaurant anywhere in the park.

Yes!  All of our locations feature large outdoor patios where you can enjoy a meal with your leashed dog.  We have full table service in these areas.  In the wintertime, we have heaters to provide comfortable seating year-round.
